Our take on Citadale: The Legends Trilogy
Its defining structure is a three-part saga that passes the demon-slaying role from Sonja to her son and then her grandson, with each generation receiving its own levels, story, characters, and music.
What is Citadale: The Legends Trilogy?
This retro action-platformer combines three 8-bit releases in one package.
The chapters follow Sonja Dorleac, her son Gabriel, and her grandson Christopher as they confront the Dark Lord across distinct stories, characters, levels, and music. Stage-based progression moves through linear levels populated by vampires, zombies, and other creatures of the night. Combat uses the Shadow Blade, axes, shurikens, and additional weapons, with horrific bosses to face. Secrets can unlock alternate endings in the first two chapters. Completing the first game with its good ending unlocks a boss-rush mode. The game uses 8-bit artwork and chiptune music, and presents a high level of difficulty. It is described as a platformer, action game, and adventure rather than a Metroidvania.
