Our take on Chessformer
Chessformer gives up conventional chess competition in favor of fixed puzzle setups. The opposing king never moves, and pieces fall after each move, so the challenge centers on arranging movement and stacks rather than responding to an active opponent.
What is Chessformer?
Chessformer combines chess-piece movement with grid-based platform puzzles.
Pieces move according to their usual chess rules, then fall until they stop and cannot move during the fall. Pieces can stack on one another, which forms part of the solution in many levels. The objective is to capture the opposing king, which never moves. Losing pieces is not presented as a concern in the game’s stated objective.
How Chessformer plays
- 01Chess-piece movement
- Each piece uses its expected chess movement when it moves.
- 02Falling pieces
- A piece drops after moving and must stop before it can move again.
- 03Stacking mechanics
- Pieces can rest on one another, supporting solutions for many levels.
- 04Stationary king
- The opposing king remains in place as the capture target.
