Our take on Shinogi Chess Club
The hybrid structure trades a purely focused chess experience for story scenes and school exploration. Players spend part of the game following Himiko’s investigation, so match-focused play is balanced with narrative and movement rather than presented alone.
What is Shinogi Chess Club?
Shinogi Chess Club combines visual novel storytelling, third-person exploration of Yoshino High School, and playable strategy matches.
Himiko Masaki investigates a dangerous organization while preparing for the Spring Championship and discovering a supernatural ability. Shinogi Chess adds new objectives, piece types, and stacking, allowing two pieces in a stack to move together. Story opponents introduce different strategies, while move highlighting, a reference book, Hidden Pieces, and adjustable AI settings support play. Practice Mode offers custom battles and local multiplayer. The game includes a standalone story, adjustable text size, autoplay, subtitles, accessibility features, controller support, and versions for Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux.
