Our take on Cantata
The grand-strategy framing sits alongside small-scale skirmishes, so the game is not solely about managing a vast empire. Its scope also includes faction stories, a planet that takes turns, map creation, and multiplayer matches.
What is Cantata?
Cantata combines empire management with small-scale tactical battles on the alien planet of Shoal.
Players command a faction, establish a base, build structures, manage resources and troops, capture regions, and investigate map secrets. Shoal also acts during each round through weather, fauna, and other mysteries. The campaign follows separate faction stories that reveal the planet’s history. Campaign maps are made with the same in-game tools available to players. Those tools support custom maps, imported units and terrain, and sharing through Steam Workshop. Local and online multiplayer provide matches on existing or player-made scenarios, with options such as capturing regions, ambushing opponents, and cutting supply lines.
