Our take on Cataclismo
Players may hit a wall when fortress construction becomes central to survival: weak support choices can bring structures down, while each sunset demands troop positioning before the next Horror assault. The editor and shared blueprint systems add another layer for players uninterested in designing defenses.
What is Cataclismo?
Cataclismo is a real-time strategy game about leading survivors after the Cataclismo.
Players construct wooden and stone fortresses piece by piece while managing resources, warehouses, housing, recruitment, and technology. Daytime supports exploration, expansion, and gathering materials; at night, increasingly dangerous Horrors attack the settlements. Defensive planning includes chokepoints, elevated positions, traps, structural integrity, and load-bearing columns. Collapsing structures can kill friendly and hostile units. Soldiers such as bowmen and cannoneers use different abilities and positions during battles. The game includes a single-player campaign, skirmish maps, a challenge mode with procedurally generated maps and escalating waves, plus editors for creating and sharing maps and fortress blueprints.
How Cataclismo plays
- 01Modular fortress building
- Wood and stone structures can be assembled piece by piece, using player-made plans or designs shared by the community.
- 02Day-night defense cycle
- Exploration and development occur during daylight before nightly attacks require forces to be placed around the fortress.
- 03Structural collapse system
- Building stability and support columns affect fortifications, while falling sections can kill units on either side.
- 04Tactical unit command
- Bowmen, cannoneers, and other soldiers use different traits, abilities, elevations, traps, and defensive positions.
- 05Three game modes
- The game contains a narrative campaign, skirmishes on handcrafted maps, and challenges on procedurally generated maps.
- 06Map and blueprint sharing
- Players can make and share skirmish maps and fortress designs with the community.
Cataclismo compared to similar games
