StrategyIs Sandustry worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Factory automation players who want material interactions to shape production
- Exploration-focused strategy players interested in artifacts and underground challenges
- Modders who want to create maps, buildings, processes, or broader overhauls
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a simple factory builder may find the pixel-based material systems and expanding chains too complex
- Players wanting a tightly directed campaign may find the open-world exploration and multiple development paths too diffuse
- Players uninterested in resource processing or automation will have little use for the core systems
Our take on Sandustry
The material simulation adds depth by making terrain and resources part of the factory, but it also introduces extra management work. Production layouts must account for reactions such as melting, boiling, absorption, and ignition, so the factory cannot be treated as a simple network of fixed inputs and outputs.
What is Sandustry?
Sandustry is a factory automation game set on a destructible planet where each pixel functions as a resource or physical entity.
Players mine, mix, process, and destroy materials while expanding production from basic gold sifting into complex chains using conveyors, filters, drones, pipes, pumps, lifts, and other machinery. Materials interact through processes such as melting, boiling, absorption, growth, and ignition. Exploration leads to artifacts, underground vaults, diverse biomes, and challenges left by an ancient civilization. The game also includes wildlife, weapons, and modding tools for visual changes, custom maps, new buildings, new processes, and larger overhauls.
How Sandustry plays
- 01Destructible Planet
- Terrain and materials can be mined or altered at the pixel level across an open world.
- 02Production Automation
- Factories can combine conveyors, filters, drones, pipes, pumps, and lifts into processing networks.
- 03Reactive Materials
- Heat, water, fire, and other interactions change resources such as ice, sand, seeds, and spores.
- 04Ancient Vaults
- Underground exploration reveals vaults and obstacles connected to a lost civilization.
- 05Modding Tools
- Dedicated tools support visual changes, custom maps, additional buildings, and new production processes.
