Our take on Asleep: Act 1
The varied mechanics and atmospheric setting receive strong emphasis, while the story’s limited scope is easier to miss: Act 1 is only the opening section, with the continuation presented separately as downloadable content.
What is Asleep: Act 1?
Asleep: Act 1 is a psychological horror adventure set in Brazil’s Northeast.
It follows Ana Lúcia through nightmares and a disturbing reality, using exploration, clues, puzzles, stealth, and platforming. A flashlight and environmental lighting reveal objects and areas, influence how different creatures behave, and provide ways to draw enemies away or avoid them. Remaining in darkness gradually worsens Ana Lúcia’s mental state, increasing anxiety and danger. Players collect documents, objects, and evidence in a sketchbook while navigating detailed 2D pixel-art environments. The game includes choices, collectibles, secret memories, and travel between two versions of its universe. Act 1 is the opening section of the story, with Act 2 available as downloadable content.
