SimulationIs Approximately Up worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who enjoy constructing and testing custom spacecraft rather than following fixed vehicle designs
- Space exploration fans who want missions across varied planets and first-person flights
- Small groups seeking cooperative engineering challenges for up to 4 players
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a tightly scripted space adventure instead of repeated ship construction, testing, and rebuilding
- Players who prefer short, predictable levels rather than flights that can become long journeys when a ship is weak
- Solo players who do not enjoy managing complex spacecraft systems
Our take on Approximately Up
The open-ended construction system trades predictable handling for experimentation: ships may be highly capable, barely flyable, or fail during a journey. Long distances also make weak designs costly in time, so progression depends on accepting trial and error.
What is Approximately Up?
Build modular spacecraft from thousands of components, connect engines, sensors, meters, cables, and automated systems, then pilot the result from a first-person view.
Start on Earth and explore a system of 15 planets with different gravity, atmospheres, temperatures, sizes, and challenges. Planet Stations act as checkpoints, garages, and launch sites that unlock permanently after landing. Missions include transporting components between planets and handling unusual power sources, heavy vehicles, and other hazards. Completing objectives provides new ship parts for later designs. Flights can take minutes or become long journeys when a spacecraft is underpowered. Single-player and co-op multiplayer support up to 4 players.
How Approximately Up plays
- 01Modular ship building
- Spaceships can combine thousands of components, including electric engines, fuel engines, solar panels, sensors, meters, and heat-resistant frames.
- 02Fifteen planets
- The planetary system includes worlds with distinct gravity, atmospheres, temperatures, sizes, and environmental challenges.
- 03Mission progression
- Completing objectives and transporting components unlocks additional ship parts for later spacecraft designs.
- 04Permanent stations
- Landing at a Planet Station unlocks it as a future checkpoint, garage, and launch location.
- 05Four-player co-op
- The game supports single-player sessions and cooperative multiplayer with up to 4 players.
