Our take on Charlie Charlie Challenge
The defining mechanic is speech recognition: Charlie responds to the words spoken during the ritual, making voice communication part of the encounter rather than only a way for players to coordinate.
What is Charlie Charlie Challenge?
Charlie Charlie Challenge is a 1–4 player cooperative horror game about locating and banishing Charlie before escaping.
Players use speech recognition to communicate with the entity through a paper-and-pencil ritual, and Charlie responds to the words spoken rather than only voice volume. The multiplayer mode supports up to 4 players, with voice chat available for communication. Each match requires finding the main room where Charlie is located, while map items appear in changing positions. Charlie becomes more difficult to handle as the match progresses. The game is in active development and includes graphics settings intended for both lower-end and higher-end systems.
How Charlie Charlie Challenge plays
- 01Speech-driven entity
- Charlie reacts to the words players say during the ritual, not merely to how loudly they speak.
- 02Four-player co-op
- The multiplayer mode supports groups of up to 4 players hunting or being hunted together.
- 03Changing item locations
- Objects are placed in different positions between matches, while the main room must still be located.
- 04Escalating difficulty
- Charlie becomes significantly harder to deal with as a match continues.
- 05Adjustable graphics
- Graphics options accommodate lower-end systems as well as higher-end systems using higher visual fidelity.
Charlie Charlie Challenge compared to similar games
Unplagued also supports cooperative play for up to 4 companions, but focuses on purging plague from procedurally generated medieval villages and collecting ingredients. Charlie Charlie Challenge instead centers on spoken interaction with one unpredictable entity, locating its room, banishing it, and escaping.
