Our take on Make Sail
The focus on custom boat construction gives up a conventional, fixed vehicle design. Each island supports rebuilding, but the repeated cycle of assembling, testing, and modifying vessels may feel less structured than a straightforward exploration adventure.
What is Make Sail?
Make boats from modular parts such as planks, poles, sails, masts, jets, propellers, balloons, and sparklers, then test whether each creation stays afloat and upright.
Sail through changing water and wind within a storm, crossing the sea to discover parts that can alter a ship's size, speed, strength, appearance, and construction. Islands provide opportunities to redesign and rebuild vessels. The world uses procedurally arranged islands, components, and creatures, so each replay presents different challenges and opportunities across its stages. Pushing back the storm opens additional islands and waters. Exploration involves finding new construction pieces, escaping giant creatures, and continuing toward escape.
How Make Sail plays
- 01Modular boat building
- Ships can combine structural pieces with sails, propulsion systems, balloons, and decorative items.
- 02Storm sailing
- Vessels travel through shifting wind and water while operating inside a storm.
- 03Procedural exploration
- Island layouts, available components, and creatures vary between replays.
- 04Progressive discovery
- Advancing against the storm reveals additional areas and parts for later ship designs.
