Play it if you…
Good fit- Flight simulation fans who want historically themed aerial combat
- VR players with controllers or flight hardware who want cockpit-based battles
- Multiplayer pilots who want World War I and World War II aircraft
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking an accessible arcade flight game may hit a wall with the physically modeled flight and damage systems.
- Players who want varied camera perspectives may bounce off the cockpit-only battle view.
- Players looking for a ground-combat shooter or survival-crafting game will find the scope limited to aircraft missions and aerial battles.
Our take on Aces of Thunder
The bounce point arrives at the cockpit: every battle stays in that viewpoint, while flight and damage behavior follow a realism-focused simulation model. Players expecting arcade handling, external camera views, or ground combat may leave before the multiplayer or single-player missions open up.
What is Aces of Thunder?
Aces of Thunder is a flight simulation game focused on aerial combat in World War I and World War II aircraft.
Battles use an exclusively cockpit-based viewpoint, physically modeled flight, damage effects, and support for HOTAS controls. The game includes more than 20 recreated World War II aircraft, additional Great War fighters, and 15 maps covering Western, Eastern, and Pacific World War II theaters alongside World War I frontlines. Multiplayer battles put players against pilots worldwide, while single-player missions provide individual aircraft practice and combat. Between missions, players can walk through a hangar and inspect aircraft. The game supports VR devices through OpenXR, with VR controllers, hardware simulator rigs, and gamepads available as control options.
