Our take on XO
The store page emphasizes freedom of choice, but fleet expansion carries a direct cost: each added ship grants abilities while reducing limited resources. Growth is therefore presented as a trade-off rather than simple progression.
What is XO?
XO is a real-time strategy game with pause in which a fleet races to escape the Harvesters.
Ships provide distinct abilities but also consume limited resources: warships add firepower, farmships provide food, industryships support manufacturing, research, and repairs, while cargoships expand storage. Encounters include refugees, merchants, pirates, wreckage, shipyards, stations, traps, and distressed vessels. Fleet growth can involve force, diplomacy, sacrifices, or manipulation. Political events bring infighting, sabotage, and conflicts between factions. Resources are gathered automatically, with rates and capacity affected by the fleet and visited planet types. Players can upgrade ships, create trade goods, manufacture weapons, and repair damage while travelling across varied worlds.
