Our take on Woodland Saga
The defining structure is its two-part turn system: deploy a group with a card or issue a command to a unit already on the board. That choice is tied to a battlefield where biomes, elevation, and towns affect movement and placement.
What is Woodland Saga?
Woodland Saga is a turn-based strategy game about commanding groups of woodland creatures.
Matches can be played against an AI or another player, with victory coming from destroying the opposing base camp or taking control of three magical shrines. Each turn offers two choices: play an army card from the hand to place a group on the board, or give a new command to a group already deployed. Terrain and map elements, including biomes, elevation differences, and towns, affect placement and movement decisions. The game includes more than 15 cards to discover and supports online player-versus-player matches. Camera controls include keyboard panning, right-mouse-button rotation, and mouse-wheel zooming.
How Woodland Saga plays
- 01Dual victory conditions
- A match ends when a player destroys the enemy base camp or claims three distinct magical shrines.
- 02Card-based deployment
- Army cards from the hand place groups of units onto the battlefield.
- 03Terrain-sensitive tactics
- Biomes, elevation changes, towns, and other map elements affect decisions about positioning and movement.
- 04Online versus matches
- Players can compete online against another person or face an AI-controlled opponent.
- 05Growing card pool
- More than 15 different cards are available to find.
Woodland Saga compared to similar games
Men of War: Assault Squad focuses on large-scale World War II strategy with direct control of individual units and hands-on combat, while Woodland Saga uses group units, army cards, and two alternative victory objectives. Xenonauts centers on a multinational military organization, persistent soldiers, and defending Earth from an alien invasion; Woodland Saga instead stages matches around woodland armies, base destruction, or shrine capture.
