Our take on Wars of the Roses
The mission-based campaign structure keeps the focus on specific battles and faction choices. That focus leaves less room for play outside those scenarios, so players seeking a broader set of modes may find the scope narrow.
What is Wars of the Roses?
Wars of the Roses is a strategy game built around battles between the Lancaster and Yorkist houses during the medieval period.
Its campaigns cover several periods of the conflict: a 7-mission tutorial, a 4-mission Tudor campaign, an 8-mission Lancastrian campaign, and an 8-mission Yorkist campaign. Except for the tutorial, missions can be played as either side. Battlefield choices include using armoured knights, billmen, longbowmen, and artillery, with strategic movement and flank attacks shaping engagements. The game also includes more than 30 medieval unit types, combat analysis, reference charts, and map zoom. Its structure focuses on campaign missions and battlefield tactics rather than a broader range of game modes.
