Is Medieval Battle: Europe worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Strategy players who want campaigns based on medieval conflicts between France and neighboring powers
- Players who prefer commanding varied historical-style armies rather than a single unit type
- Campaign-focused players who want to replay most missions from opposing sides
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a broad grand-strategy system may hit a wall at the mission-based campaign structure
- Players who want a large roster of modern or fantastical units may find the medieval army scope restrictive
- Players looking for a story centered outside France, Flanders, Navarre, and Aragon may find the regional focus narrow
Our take on Medieval Battle: Europe
The bounce point arrives for players expecting a broad map-level war simulator: the game organizes its content into fixed campaigns and missions. Those who want modern armies or settings beyond France, Flanders, Navarre, and Aragon may also stop at its tightly defined medieval scope.
What is Medieval Battle: Europe?
Command campaigns set during medieval conflicts involving France, Flanders, Navarre, and Aragon.
Missions cover Charles II of Navarre’s political ambitions, the Franco-Flemish War from 1297 to 1305, Aragon’s defense against two French crusades, and its later campaign against Navarre. Seven tutorial missions introduce the game, followed by four Navarre missions, eight in Flanders, and six in Aragon. Except for the tutorial, each mission supports both opposing sides. Armies include more than 50 distinct medieval unit types, including heavily armoured knights, pikemen, crossbowmen, and English longbowmen. Battles use strategic movement, flank attacks, combat analysis, map zoom, and reference charts.
