Is Toy Soldiers worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Strategy players who want direct control of battlefield units rather than only issuing high-level orders
- Action-game fans who enjoy combining artillery, aircraft, tanks, and defensive placement
- Players seeking miniature World War I battlefields with included extra campaigns
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want a purely hands-off strategy game may hit a wall when battles require direct operation of artillery, aircraft, or vehicles
- Those seeking a historically focused World War I simulation may bounce off the toy-diorama presentation and fantastical add-on enemies
- Players looking for a broad real-time strategy sandbox may find the emphasis on set battlefield encounters narrower than a full empire-management game
Our take on Toy Soldiers
The likely bounce point arrives when strategic placement gives way to hands-on combat. Players who prefer issuing orders from a distant overview may not enjoy switching into artillery, biplanes, or tanks to attack positions directly.
What is Toy Soldiers?
Toy Soldiers combines strategic battlefield command with direct control of individual units in trench-filled World War I settings.
Players place defenses, operate artillery against enemy positions, pilot biplanes, maneuver tanks across No-Man’s Land, and deploy cavalry or flamethrowers. Battles can be viewed from above for wider command or played through selected units. The game uses antique toy soldiers and miniature dioramas as its presentation. The PC release includes the Kaiser's Battle and Invasion downloadable content. These additions bring a French-themed scenario with the K-Wagen experimental boss, plus a German mini-campaign featuring unusual enemies, secret weapons, flying saucers, knights, and a WWII Mustang.
How Toy Soldiers plays
- 01Mixed battlefield control
- Switch between overseeing the whole battle and operating individual combat units.
- 02WWI toy warfare
- Set battles across European trench fields with miniature tanks, cavalry, biplanes, artillery, and flamethrowers.
- 03Included add-on campaigns
- The PC edition contains Kaiser's Battle and Invasion, including additional scenarios, enemies, weapons, and bosses.
Toy Soldiers compared to similar games
Toy Soldiers combines overhead battlefield direction with direct control of tanks, aircraft, artillery, and other units in miniature World War I scenarios. Rising Front also supports tanks, cavalry, planes, and infantry with first-person and overhead command, but its description presents a large-scale battle simulator rather than toy-diorama warfare. Creeper World 4 instead centers on building an economic base and resisting fluid enemy waves across 3D terrain.
