Our take on Tokaido
The tranquil journey and scenic presentation receive much of the emphasis, while the competitive structure is easier to overlook. Winning still depends on strategic choices against opponents, so this is not only a sightseeing experience.
What is Tokaido?
Tokaido is a digital adaptation of a board game set along Japan’s East Sea road between Kyoto and Edo.
Players guide travelers who discover landscapes, eat regional specialties, collect souvenirs, visit temples, use hot springs, and meet other travelers. The peaceful setting includes strategic competition, with players seeking to make their journeys more satisfying than those of their opponents. Play modes include solo matches against AI, pass-and-play sessions, and online multiplayer. The game presents the route with real-time 3D graphics and a soundtrack composed for the adaptation. Supported languages are French, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, Japanese, and Chinese.
