Our take on Eight-Minute Empire
Rather than building a civilization through a long sequence of turns, this game compresses map control into card selections that each combine an immediate action with a scoring resource. Its format centers on choosing between expansion and end-game value.
What is Eight-Minute Empire?
Eight-Minute Empire is a card-driven area-control strategy game for 2-5 players.
On a turn, a player chooses one card from six displayed options. Each card provides a resource and an immediate action, so players weigh actions that expand their forces against resources that score at the end. Players recruit troops, move across the map, acquire provinces, sail between land areas, build castles, and eliminate opposing troops. Final points include control majorities in regions and continents, as well as collected resources. The digital version supports play against AI, with friends, or in mixed groups, including pass-and-play and synchronous or asynchronous online multiplayer. It also includes maps, three AI difficulty levels, an interactive tutorial, a colorblind mode, and more than 70 achievements.
