We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Adventure players who want a mystery built around routine station work
- Players who enjoy resource pressure tied to movement and exertion
- Story-focused players who want choices with branching paths
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want unrestricted movement may hit a wall when the game’s rules prohibit running, speaking, and looking inside the train.
- Players who dislike resource management may bounce off the breath system, where exertion requires rationed air canisters.
- Players seeking a combat-centered experience may find the station duties and investigation take priority during the shift.
Our take on THRESHOLD
The bounce point arrives when ordinary movement becomes a resource decision: blowing the whistle and performing tasks consume breath, while air canisters are rationed. Players who treat exploration as unrestricted may also stop at the rules forbidding speech, running, and looking inside the train.
What is THRESHOLD?
THRESHOLD places the player on duty at the Border Post, a decaying station high in the mountains.
The main task is blowing a whistle to keep a train on schedule, while the thin air makes every exertion costly. Air canisters provide limited relief for work completed. During the shift, players deliver reports, clean a water filter, gather discarded wood, and interact with Mo, a fellow worker who can answer questions.
The game combines station maintenance with a mystery and a semi-linear narrative in which decisions can open different paths. Its rules also restrict behavior: players are told not to speak, run, or look inside the train. The shift unfolds around managing breath, following instructions, and deciding how to respond to the station’s unsettling circumstances.
How THRESHOLD plays
- 01Breath Management
- Physical effort consumes the character’s ability to breathe, while air canisters are allocated for completed work.
- 02Station Duties
- The shift includes report delivery, water-filter cleaning, and collecting wood.
- 03Branching Narrative
- Choices can lead the semi-linear story toward different paths.
- 04Character Interaction
- Mo can be summoned during the shift to answer questions.
