Our take on The Subject
The defining constraint is the recurring bio-data check-in: skipping a terminal visit ends the experiment through euthanization, turning routine exploration into a survival requirement.
What is The Subject?
Taken prisoner and sold to BioMass Labs, the player is sent to a deep-space testing facility and forced to participate in an experiment.
The game combines puzzle-adventure exploration with horror elements and an early science-fiction visual style. Its massive complex contains dark corridors, testing rooms, concealed puzzle pieces, and items required to progress through the maze. The player is monitored by those running the tests and must periodically visit a bio-data terminal to record vital signs and other information. Missing a check-in results in removal from testing by euthanization. The setting presents a future shaped by commercial prisons, prisoner auctions, and a growing divide between prisoners and ordinary people.
How The Subject plays

- Progress requires finding concealed puzzle components and navigating between testing rooms.
- 02Item Collection
- Collected objects are needed to advance through the facility's maze.
- 03Vital Data Check-ins
- Periodic terminal visits record vital signs and other test information, while a missed check-in results in euthanization.
