StrategyIs The Last Starship worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who enjoy designing and upgrading starships in a space construction game
- Simulation fans who want to manage ship systems, resources, and crew life support
- Exploration-focused players who want missions, anomalies, discoveries, and multiple spacefaring roles
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a tightly linear campaign may find the sandbox structure less directed.
- Those who prefer combat without construction, resource gathering, or life-support management may find the systems focus demanding.
- Players looking for a historical or Earth-based setting may prefer a different theme.
Our take on The Last Starship
Ship construction and onboard upkeep create a systems-focused experience, but that emphasis leaves less room for a tightly scripted, linear campaign. The open-ended structure also requires players to set priorities across construction, exploration, combat, and resource gathering.
What is The Last Starship?
Design and improve a 2D starship while managing its internal systems.
Build a reactor, engines, pipework, and electrical systems, then maintain life support for the crew. Equip the vessel with lasers or railguns, and choose between heavier armor, greater agility, stealth, or additional firepower. Explore a procedurally generated sector containing missions, anomalies, characters, and discoveries. Activities include delivering cargo, undertaking rescues, hunting pirates, salvaging wrecks with drones, and extracting raw materials with lasers. Water, oxygen, and fuel sustain ships and crew. Ships can be shared through Steam Workshop. The game is an expanding sandbox receiving regular free updates during development.
