- Players looking for a prison-escape or World War II setting will find its focus on alien attacks and starship construction different
Our take on Celestial Project
Rather than centering on a broad battlefield or a single persistent squad, the game combines roguelike progression with WarChess maps, weapon-chip loadouts, and a campaign organized around defending five starships.
What is Celestial Project?
Celestial Project is a roguelike WarChess strategy game set during an alien attack on Earth in 2069.
Players command special operations forces from three human factions, selecting from 9 roles to form a three-person team. Battles take place on 9x9 maps where terrain and equipment affect tactical decisions. Characters can carry two weapons, selected from more than 24 weapons, props, and equipment, while weapons accept three chips each from a pool of more than 81 chips and skills. The campaign centers on defending five starships under construction. Each ship has a different design, setting, enemy style, and loot rewards. Hidden weapons can be obtained by capturing alien creatures, and the game includes a concealed sixth starship under construction.
How Celestial Project plays

Celestial Project compared to similar games
Men of War: Assault Squad focuses on large-scale World War II battles with direct control of individual units, while Celestial Project uses 9x9 maps, three-person teams, and weapon-chip combinations against alien creatures. Xenonauts also centers on defending Earth from an alien invasion, but its description emphasizes a multinational military organization, persistent soldiers, and technology recovery. Shogun Showdown shares the roguelike and turn-based structure, but uses attack tiles, combos, and deck building rather than Celestial Project's team roles, weapons, and chips.
