Our take on The Janitor
Its defining mechanic is an enemy that reacts to Max’s physical condition, including heartbeat, breathing, body odor, and blood.
What is The Janitor?
Play as Max Taylor, a janitor sent to an abandoned asylum to fix a pipe and an electrical panel.
The building soon reveals blood, strange sounds, and a failed government experiment that pursues him. Escape requires finding tools and machine parts to restore the elevator’s hydraulic pump. After jumping into the shaft, Max wakes in underground catacombs and continues searching for a way out. The game uses a first-person view, dark environments, jump scares, puzzles, interactive surroundings, and hostile creatures. Enemy behavior responds to character conditions such as heartbeat, breathing, body odor, and blood, while the story moves from the asylum into its subterranean areas.
How The Janitor plays
- 01Reactive enemy behavior
- The creature’s actions are affected by Max’s heartbeat, breathing, body odor, and blood.
- 02Elevator repair objective

- Environmental puzzles must be completed to advance through the story.
- 04Interactive environments
