Our take on Cryptid
The game shifts the usual fixed-path horror pursuit into a reactive structure: repairing the environment, choosing how to confront the creature, and repeating the hunt can alter its behavior and the ending.
What is Cryptid?
Play as a veteran hunter returning to a town where no one remains.
A mysterious creature follows from the shadows as the investigation moves through the town and surrounding forest. Broken equipment and powerless locations must be repaired to uncover mysteries and gain an advantage. Encounters with the creature are dangerous because it can kill in one strike. Traps and guns can be used to scare it away. The game uses a body-camera perspective and includes multiple endings. The creature changes its behavior in response to player actions, so starting a new game can produce a different sequence of events and outcome.
How Cryptid plays
- 01Repair-based investigation
- Restoring damaged or powerless objects opens paths toward solving mysteries and confronting the creature.
- 02Reactive creature behavior
- The creature responds to player actions, changing how later runs unfold.
- 03Lethal encounters
- A direct encounter can end the run in one strike, while traps and guns can frighten the creature.
- 04Multiple endings
- Different actions and events can lead to more than one conclusion.
