Our take on The Bluecoats: North & South
The sharpest dividing point is the fort-and-train phase: those expecting the campaign map and real-time unit battles to define every encounter may hit a wall when assaults switch to a first-person soldier’s view.
What is The Bluecoats: North & South?
The Bluecoats: North & South combines turn-based campaign planning with real-time combat.
On the strategy map, move battalions, capture states, fight opposing forces, and reinforce positions. Forts and railways provide resources, while reinforcements arrive from Europe. Battles let players command infantry, cavalry, and artillery. Fort and train assaults use a first-person perspective, with players attacking or defending positions. Campaigns can begin in different years of the American Civil War, allowing players to change the course of events or hold their ground. The game supports single-player and two-player play, and offers options to adjust the experience. This remastered version updates the gameplay of the original, which first appeared on Amiga in the late 1980s.
How The Bluecoats: North & South plays
