Is X-Morph: Defense worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Tower-defense players who want direct control of an alien fighter
- Strategy fans who enjoy planning enemy routes and adapting defenses
- Two-player households seeking split-screen cooperative missions
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want a shooter without pausing for defense planning may bounce off the setup phase before each wave.
- Players who prefer fixed arenas may find path manipulation and collapsing structures too disruptive to their plans.
- Players seeking a solo-only experience will not use the split-screen co-op mode.
Our take on X-Morph: Defense
The likely bounce point is the switch between planning and combat. Players must inspect incoming enemy types, shape routes with towers and laser fences, and then handle threats directly with a specialized fighter form. Those who prefer one continuous combat loop may lose interest when defense construction becomes central.
What is X-Morph: Defense?
X-Morph: Defense combines top-down shooting with tower defense.
As an alien invader, defend harvesters from waves of human forces by placing towers, building laser-fence mazes, and attacking enemies directly. Each wave has a planning phase without a time limit, allowing enemy types and routes to be examined before defenses are set. Towers can be placed across the map, while collapsed buildings and bridges can alter the battlefield. Four fighter forms provide different weapons and charged attacks for air units, ground groups, and large targets. The game includes boss encounters, destructible environments, and split-screen co-op, with missions that use different scenarios and enemy directions for two players.
How X-Morph: Defense plays
- 01Tower Path Shaping
- Laser fences and freely placed towers can redirect incoming enemies through custom routes.
- 02Four Fighter Forms
- The Plasma Fighter, Dark Matter Bomber, Shredder, and Laser Destroyer specialize in different enemy threats.
- 03Destructible Battlefields
- Buildings and bridges can collapse, changing the layout of encounters rather than serving only as visual effects.
- 04Split-Screen Co-op
- Two players can divide tower placement and direct combat across missions with larger enemy numbers and additional attack directions.
- 05PC Control Options
- The PC version includes customizable keyboard and mouse controls, uncapped frame rates, and 21:9 resolution support.
