Our take on Sym
The social-anxiety premise receives prominent attention, but the playable structure centers on conventional puzzle-platforming, maze traversal, and level creation. The emotional framing may therefore suggest a more narrative-led experience than the described mechanics indicate.
What is Sym?
Sym is a puzzle-platformer about Josh, a teenage boy navigating two connected realms that represent his perception of reality and a world built to escape his fears.
Players control his alter egos, Caleb and Ammiel, switching between the white and dark spaces to solve logic puzzles, cross mazes, avoid hazards, and reach safe routes. Caleb seeks to confront his fears, while Ammiel prefers isolation from human contact. The game includes 44 levels combining puzzles, platforming, and maze navigation. A level editor allows players to make and share stages, while the Shared World links doorways in player-created levels with stages made by others.
