Our take on Stray Blade
The defining structure is a world that records changes caused by victories and other actions, then presents those alterations when the adventurer returns, including after death.
What is Stray Blade?
Play as an adventurer restored to life and tied to the ancient Valley of Acrea.
Travel through ruined cities, throne rooms, icy caverns, and canyons while uncovering the civilization’s past and the powers behind its destruction. Combat calls for reading opponents’ moves, then answering with rapid exchanges of blades and well-aimed strikes. Battles and other actions reshape the world, and those changes persist when returning to locations after death.
Confront the God-Kings and draw on their abilities to investigate Acrea and open new domains. The adventurer and Boji, a Xhinnon wolf, each follow a separate talent tree: the adventurer earns experience in combat, while Boji progresses by discovering fragments of ancient lore. Exploring also turns up materials, recipes, weapons, lore fragments, and notable locations.

Stray Blade compared to similar games
Ghost of a Tale also combines action-RPG play with exploration, but centers on a mouse minstrel, stealth, disguises, and conversations in a medieval animal world. Stray Blade focuses on reactive melee combat, changing locations, God-King powers, and separate talent trees for the adventurer and Boji. Vagante presents an adventure through a dark fantasy world filled with monsters, demons, and crooks, while Stray Blade follows exploration of Acrea’s ruins, caves, and canyons with a wolf companion.
