StrategyIs Split Square worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who enjoy action roguelikes built around deck construction
- Strategy players who want to alter a skill deck between battles
- Pixel-character fans who prefer room-based enemy encounters
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want full access to every skill in every battle may dislike drawing only three skills at random
- Players seeking battles with objectives beyond defeating all enemies in a room may find the structure limited
- Players looking for a non-combat deck-building game may not fit the action-focused format
Our take on Split Square
The cute pixel-character presentation gives limited indication that the main structure is a skill-draw and deck-adjustment loop. Battles depend on three randomly selected skills, with deck changes taking place between encounters.
What is Split Square?
Split Square is an action deck-building roguelike with pixel characters.
Battles take place in random block spaces filled with enemies. For each battle, three skills are selected at random from the constructed deck, and those skills are used to defeat every enemy in the room. Clearing battles provides rewards for building a stronger deck. Between battles, skills in the player’s possession can be added to or removed from the deck, allowing its contents to be adjusted for the environment. The game focuses on choosing skills, changing the deck, and clearing successive enemy-filled rooms.
