Soul Survivor: Trials of the Goddess is a retro dungeon-crawling JRPG combining choice-driven play with roguelike and CRPG elements.
In each area, players can claim up to 3 free items and must defeat 3 chosen enemies to progress. Enemy selection makes battles a resource decision, while stronger boss encounters appear every few stages. Areas contain secrets, environmental interactions, and clues about the island's history. New games shuffle maps, encounters, and item locations, with an optional mode that removes randomization. Defeat uses a lives system: after losing all 3 starting lives, unlocked upgrades can carry into the next save file.
