Our take on Shovel Knight: King of Cards
The game combines platforming, combat, collectibles, and a card game, so its attention is divided across several systems rather than concentrated on one. That broader structure may feel less focused than a dedicated platformer or standalone deck-builder.
What is Shovel Knight: King of Cards?
Play as King Knight in a prequel adventure focused on platforming, combat, and deck-building.
Move through strange worlds using leaps, shoulder charges, bouncing attacks, and spins to defeat enemies and break obstacles. Collect more than 120 unique Joustus cards, assemble decks, challenge opponents, and compete for victory in each Joustus House. The journey also includes treasures, heirlooms, armor, abilities, followers, new bosses, Feats, and Challenge Stages with boss rematches and custom platforming trials. A New Game+ mode adds another run through the adventure. The game uses an 8-bit-inspired visual style and includes music by Jake “Virt” Kaufman.
