Our take on Golden Knight
Rather than presenting a broad, heavily branching metroidvania, Golden Knight uses a linear and focused path through forests and castles. Its structure centers on completing levels, defeating bosses, and restoring the kingdom, giving the genre’s exploration loop a compact format.
What is Golden Knight?
Set in Valerond, Golden Knight is a compact, single-player RPG platformer with metroidvania elements.
The hero travels through shadowy woods and perilous fortresses, searching for treasure and useful supplies while battling ordinary foes and major bosses. Combat combines sword strikes with jumping and a dash that can help cross hazards or evade attacks. Coins and campsites support character growth, including improvements to health and attack power, while opponents grow stronger over time. Progression follows a straightforward sequence of stages centered on clearing areas, overcoming bosses, and returning peace to the kingdom.
Hostile creatures include slimes, skeletons, zombies, and bats. Boss encounters feature a bat demon, an enormous eye, and the Dark Mage. Visuals use two-dimensional pixel art, accompanied by music influenced by medieval traditions.

Golden Knight compared to similar games
Golden Knight combines platforming combat, coins, campsites, ability upgrades, and boss fights within a linear mini metroidvania structure. Sundered: Eldritch Edition is also a metroidvania, but its description identifies it as a chaotic edition containing previous updates and a new update, while Golden Knight emphasizes focused level progression. The other listed games describe climbing, a third-person shooter, a runner-shooter, or multiplayer shooting rather than the same metroidvania workflow.
