Our take on Shikhondo: Youkai Rampage
The soul system rewards staying close to danger, so collecting resources requires accepting greater exposure to enemy bullets. The game also divides its content across specialized modes, prioritizing replayable arcade challenges over a broader range of activities.
What is Shikhondo: Youkai Rampage?
Shikhondo: Youkai Rampage is a vertically scrolling shoot'em up set in an Eastern fantasy world inspired by Korean youkai folklore.
Players guide the Girl or Grim Reaper through enemy waves and battles against bosses with fantastical designs. The Soul Collect system charges a Soul Gauge when players move close to enemy bullets, creating a risk-and-reward choice. A dodge can then briefly nullify attacks while supporting continued shooting.
Arcade mode follows the main story, Boss Rush centers on boss encounters, and Hardcore mode grants double souls but ends a run after one hit. Dual mode is a single-player option that allows switching between the two protagonists during play. The game also includes a fully voiced story, optional features, and an additional stage.
