Some stages include enemies that fire bullets, which can be struck back to damage enemies and blocks. Five block types have different properties, including item drops, rotating bars, and turrets that fire at the player. Temporary items can widen the bat, add a ball, create a barrier, slow balls, fire shots, or destroy nearby blocks with a bomb. Clearing stages unlocks costumes for seven characters, with more than 20 costumes available.
