Our take on Shape of the World
The focus on calm wandering keeps the experience centered on atmosphere and observation, but it also limits the game’s activity range. With a stated 1–3 hour duration and no combat or hazards, repeated sessions depend mainly on revisiting its changing environments.
What is Shape of the World?
Shape of the World is a first-person exploration game set across a surreal ecosystem of forests, aquatic caves, and peaceful shores.
The environment forms near the player, changes as paths are revisited, and responds to movement through flora, animals, waterfalls, mountains, and monoliths. Exploration has no timer or hazards, allowing travel at an individual pace. The game includes procedural environmental variation, with the landscape regrowing differently during repeated visits. Its soundtrack changes with the player’s movement and the surrounding visuals. Interaction and observation are the main activities, with the experience structured as a 1–3 hour journey through colorful, dream-like locations.
