Our take on SCP: Descent
The premise raises questions about the stairwell’s history and the people trapped there, but the listed playtime is approximately 60–90 minutes. The playable structure centers on torch use, threat management, chalk-based saving, and puzzles rather than an extended investigation.
What is SCP: Descent?
Explore an endless stairwell inspired by SCP-087 as a student investigating clues left by earlier visitors.
Carry a torch through dark passages, using its light to navigate while managing the risk of attracting creatures below. Recordings from previous explorers accompany the descent, and chalk marks provide the only way to save, making save locations a deliberate choice. Running, carrying direct light, and getting close to threats can all raise the chance of capture. Puzzles block the route and must be solved to continue downward. The game presents questions about the stairwell’s history, the people lost inside it, and a possible exit. A full playthrough is listed at approximately 60–90 minutes.
How SCP: Descent plays
- 01Torch-Based Navigation
- The torch reveals dark areas but can also draw creatures toward the player.
- 02Stealth Management
- Running, exposed light, and proximity to threats each affect the likelihood of being caught.
- 03Chalk Save System
- Progress can be recorded only by marking walls with chalk, so save points must be selected during the descent.
- 04Environmental Puzzles
- Puzzles block progress through the stairwell and must be completed to continue.
- 05Recorded Guidance
- Audio recordings from earlier visitors accompany the exploration.
