We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Science-fiction players who want to explore through a remotely piloted rover rather than walk across the planet themselves
- Roguelike fans who prefer runs with changing characters, planets, and stories
- Players who enjoy combining sample collection and research with resource management and combat
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want direct exploration on foot may hit a wall when the planet’s radiation makes landing fatal and the rover becomes the means of exploring the surface.
- Players who prefer a stable setting and story may find the changing character, planet, and mysteries at each new game disruptive.
- Players looking for a purely peaceful exploration game may not want the combat and horror elements.
Our take on Scavenger SV-4
The clearest sticking point is the remote exploration system: the planet is fatal to a suited person, so players wanting to roam on foot will hit that limit before they can explore its surface. The rover’s grainy, interference-hit feed is another defining part of that setup.
What is Scavenger SV-4?
Scavenger SV-4 is a first-person science-fiction game that combines simulation, roguelike structure, action, combat, resource management, and horror elements.
Alone aboard a ship in orbit, the player directs a remote rover across a radioactive planet, exploring derelict structures and alien machinery through a grainy video feed affected by interference. The surface is deadly to a person, so exploration takes place through the rover. Players bring samples back to the ship’s science lab for research and use discovered objects to improve the rover. The aim also includes piecing together the planet’s past. Starting a new game assigns a different character and brings a new planet, story, and mysteries, giving each run a different setup.
How Scavenger SV-4 plays
- 01Remote rover exploration
- A weak signal and interference make the rover’s video feed grainy as it explores the planet’s surface.
- 02Sample research
- Collected samples can be examined in the ship’s science lab.
- 03Rover upgrades
- Objects found during exploration can be used to enhance the rover.
- 04Changing game starts
- New games use a different character and bring a new planet, story, and mysteries.
