Our take on Sanctuary Saga
The defining mechanic is the argument meter: rising tension between party members can make a hero refuse to fight, turning relationships into a direct combat constraint.
What is Sanctuary Saga?
Sanctuary Saga is a roguelite, turn-based RPG about protecting a caravan through the Untamed Wilds.
Battles use rows and positioning, with up to four active party members and as many as six skills per hero. Each character has an argument meter that can rise during combat; excessive conflict may cause a hero to refuse to fight, while stronger relationships provide combat benefits. Party members also form relationships over time. Exploration covers four randomly generated biomes, each with distinct enemies and hidden areas. Mini-bosses and bosses add encounters built around learning attack patterns, while pixel-art environments range from forests to the Deadlands.
How Sanctuary Saga plays
- 01Row-Based Battles
- Positioning four active heroes and selecting their individual skills shapes each turn.
- 02Argument Meters
- Combat tension can become high enough for some characters to stop participating.
- 03Party Relationships
- Friendships and conflicts develop as guild members fight together, producing beneficial or negative combat effects.
- 04Randomized Biomes
- Four areas change their layouts between visits and contain distinct enemies and concealed locations.
- 05Boss Encounters
- Mini-bosses and bosses require learning their attack patterns to defeat them.
