Our take on Saltsea Chronicles
The defining structure is chapter-based route selection: each chapter pairs an island choice with a crew selection, creating different discoveries, relationships, and story consequences across playthroughs.
What is Saltsea Chronicles?
Saltsea Chronicles follows Captain Maja’s crew after their ship is impounded and the captain disappears.
The crew travels between islands in a post-flood world, investigating a conspiracy while meeting communities built on the remains of an earlier civilization. Each chapter presents a choice of destination and expedition members, shaping discoveries, relationships, tensions, and recruitment. Conversations can be brief or more involved, and exploration spans different times of day. Murl’s Log records the central mystery, while the Almanac collects encounter records as stickers. Different playthroughs can reveal other islands, characters, and consequences. Chapters can be replayed, with save branches opening alternate routes. The game also includes Spoils, a trick-taking card game with local variations, and relationship quests called Issues.
