Our take on Quake 4
Its defining turn is the story’s transformation premise: Marine Corporal Matthew Kane may need to become part of the Strogg in order to defeat them.
What is Quake 4?
Play as Marine Corporal Matthew Kane, a member of the elite Rhino Squad, during Earth’s invasion of the Strogg homeworld.
Quake 4 follows a narrative campaign in which Kane battles the Strogg army, upgrades and uses advanced weapons, and operates mechanized walkers and hover tanks. The game is a direct sequel to Quake II and presents a military-style science-fiction setting. Online multiplayer lets players fight as either Strogg or Marines in Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Capture the Flag. The campaign’s central story follows the war against the Strogg and Kane’s discovery that defeating them may require becoming one of them.
How Quake 4 plays
- 01Vehicle Combat
- The campaign includes battles using walkers and hover tanks alongside conventional weapons.
- 02Faction-Based Multiplayer
- Online matches let participants choose between Strogg and Marine sides.
- 03Three Multiplayer Modes
- Competitive play includes Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Capture the Flag.
- 04Weapon Upgrades
- The campaign provides an arsenal of advanced weapons that can be upgraded.
Quake 4 compared to similar games
Quake 4 combines a directed science-fiction military campaign with arena multiplayer across Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Capture the Flag. Abyssus focuses on cooperative multiplayer shooting through hand-crafted roguelite levels, with brine-powered weapons and ancient technology modifications, rather than Quake 4’s story campaign and faction-based arena modes.
