RPGIs Populous™: The Beginning worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Strategy players who want to manage followers while expanding across a multi-planet campaign
- God-game fans who want terrain manipulation and supernatural abilities as part of conquest
- Players who enjoy directing individual units and groups toward resource gathering, construction, and combat
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want a gentle difficulty curve may hit a wall in the stated difficult campaign to conquer every planet and defeat its rival tribes.
- Those looking for a short, self-contained objective may find the 25-planet conquest structure too demanding.
- Players seeking a modern-looking presentation may not favor a game whose 3D presentation is described in historical terms.
Our take on Populous™: The Beginning
The clearest wall is the campaign’s scale: progress depends on conquering all 25 planets and defeating each tribe and shaman. Players who do not want to repeat that broad conquest objective across a star system may lose interest before reaching the stated goal of godhood.
What is Populous™: The Beginning?
Control a shaman and her tribe as they attempt to conquer 25 planets and defeat rival tribes and their shamans.
The campaign centers on directing followers, either individually or in groups, to gather resources, construct buildings, and attack enemies. Build mystical cities, cast spells, and use volcanoes and tornadoes while changing the terrain. The game presents its world in 3D and is the third entry in the Populous series. Its goal is to conquer the star system and ascend to godhood.
How Populous™: The Beginning plays
