Is Outcast 1.1 worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Action-adventure fans who want a non-linear story across open environments
- Players interested in older PC games with voiced scenes and symphonic music
- Players who want combat against reactive enemies rather than purely scripted encounters
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a tightly linear campaign may find the open-ended progression less suitable
- Players wanting short sessions may not fit a game built around a 20+ hour adventure
- Players looking for modern visual presentation may find the voxel-based rendering and revised older-game interface limiting
Our take on Outcast 1.1
Its free-roaming, non-linear structure trades tightly directed pacing for a longer adventure with more open progression. The presentation also remains rooted in an older voxel-rendering approach, despite updates for higher resolutions and current computers.
What is Outcast 1.1?
Outcast 1.
1 is an enhanced action-adventure game set on an alien world in a parallel universe. Cutter Slade, a former U. S. Navy SEAL, must recover a probe and stop an energy threat to Earth while separated from the scientists he was escorting. The game combines non-linear progression, free-roaming environments, combat against reactive AI, voiced scenes, and symphonic music. This version was rebuilt from the original source code and includes a multithreaded voxel renderer, bilinear filtering for polygonal meshes, a redesigned portion of the HUD, high-resolution sky artwork, an updated launcher, native Xbox gamepad support, controller configuration, bug fixes, and stability improvements.
