RPGIs Novus Orbis worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Deckbuilder fans who want card order to determine combat outcomes
- Strategy players who enjoy experimenting with class-specific builds
- Roguelike players who want secrets, shops, bosses, and recruitable pets in each run
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want straightforward turns may hit a wall when card order, combo values, and enemy timing must be managed together
- Players seeking a fixed campaign may find repeated runs and build experimentation too variable
- Players looking for real-time combat may not fit a card-driven battle system with countdown-based enemy attacks
Our take on Novus Orbis
The bounce point arrives during combat when playing a card advances the enemy countdown, and again when ending a turn does the same. Players who prefer uninterrupted setup turns must account for attacks that can occur before their next turn.
What is Novus Orbis?
Novus Orbis is a roguelike deckbuilder set in a space-time loop.
Players collect cards, choose from three classes with distinct card sets and mechanics, gather character upgrades called Blessings, and recruit pets during runs. Each card has a cost and combo value, so card order affects its potential and can also be broken for a different result. A countdown advances whenever cards are played or a turn ends, allowing enemies to attack during the player's turn. Each class has more than 80 cards, with over 300 cards overall across six types. Runs include battles, shops, special rooms, bosses, secrets, and companions that attack, support, or heal each turn.
How Novus Orbis plays
- 01Combo card play
- Card costs and combo values make the order of plays part of each turn, while breaking a chain can produce another outcome.
- 02Countdown battles
- Enemy attack timing advances when cards are used and when turns end, so enemies may strike before the player's next turn.
- 03Three classes
- The available classes use different card collections and gameplay mechanics.
- 04Large card pool
- Each class has more than 80 cards, with over 300 cards in total across six card types.
- 05Blessing upgrades
- More than 100 character upgrades can be found through bosses, special rooms, shops, and secret interactions.
- 06Run companions
- Pets found during runs can attack, provide support, or heal each turn.
