Our take on Underboard
The emphasis on tactical battles can suggest direct unit control, but characters act automatically based on positioning and aggression. Player input centers on drafting, placement, traits, equipment, spell choices, and longer-term Mastery progression.
What is Underboard?
Underboard combines team drafting, roguelike exploration, and automated tactical battles.
Characters fight according to their positions and aggression, while players arrange the team and respond to enemy threats. Traits shared between characters provide bonuses, and characters gain levels by defeating monsters before evolving through boss encounters. Loot can be crafted into equipment with stat bonuses, extra traits, or special effects. Spells can be cast during battles for direct support or reserved for passive benefits, with upgrades offering either stronger effects or broader tactical options. Randomized maps contain monsters, treasures, and fog of war. Multiple themed Zones feature distinct enemies and bosses, while Masteries add further specialization for later expeditions.
How Underboard plays
- 01Automated Tactical Combat
- Characters act independently according to their placement and aggression, leaving positioning and spell use as the main battle decisions.
- 02Trait-Based Teams
- Matching character traits grants additional bonuses, while random traits make each drafted group different.
- 03Craftable Equipment
- Loot can be turned into gear that adds statistics, traits, or distinct effects to equipped characters.
- 04Active Or Passive Spells
- Mana can fund battle spells or be retained for ongoing bonuses, with upgrades supporting stronger effects or wider flexibility.
- 05Randomized Zones
- Fog-covered maps contain monsters and treasure, and each Zone has its own enemies, theme, and bosses.
- 06Mastery Progression
- Masteries unlock during play and allow teams to be specialized for later explorations.
