Our take on Niktophobia
Rather than treating darkness as a fixed atmosphere, the game makes station lighting part of the mission decisions. Players choose where power is used, carry personal lights, and coordinate sample recovery while an AI threat responds to their conduct.
What is Niktophobia?
Niktophobia is a science-fiction horror game for one to four players.
A biological and chemical threat prevention team enters a space-station research facility after power failures and lost communications. The mission involves finding unknown substances or objects, isolating them, and delivering them for analysis. Players explore dark corridors, decide which areas receive limited electrical power, and use personal lighting equipment when needed. An AI-controlled threat remains physically present, tracks disturbances, and determines whether player actions are hostile. Cooperative play divides responsibilities among team members, with in-game points distributed when a mission is completed. PC and VR players can participate together, with support for different input types.
How Niktophobia plays
- 01Limited station power
- Teams choose which station areas to illuminate and plan routes around a finite energy supply.
- 02AI-controlled threat
- The hostile presence reacts to player behavior, investigates disturbances, and remains reachable in the environment.
- 03Sample recovery missions
- Players search for unidentified materials or objects, secure them, and transport them for analysis.
- 04Cross-device co-op
- VR and PC participants can play together, with support for multiple input types.
- 05Shared mission rewards
- Completed objectives distribute in-game points among the participating players.
