We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Psychological horror fans who want a story built around a confined vessel
- Players who prefer investigating mysteries through environmental puzzles and choices
- Horror players interested in operating and maintaining a large machine
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking lighthearted or relaxed gameplay may find the horror and mental deterioration too oppressive
- Players looking for fast combat or broad open-world exploration may find the vessel-focused descent too constrained
- Players who do not enjoy solving setting-based puzzles may not find enough appeal in the investigation
- Players seeking a conventional crew-management simulation may find the focus on one Navigator and a missing crew unsuitable
Our take on MOLE
Its defining setup is a solitary descent aboard a colossal drilling machine, where keeping the vessel running is tied directly to the Navigator’s deteriorating sanity.
What is MOLE?
MOLE is a psychological horror game centered on operating a colossal drilling vessel beneath Slavic soil.
As the Navigator, the player manages the machine after the crew disappears and an unexplained Signal continues calling. The vessel’s systems require interaction and repair during the descent, while puzzles are integrated into the setting. Fragments of the Navigator’s history emerge through choices and memories, gradually revealing the circumstances surrounding the missing crew. The journey combines vessel operation, investigation, survival, and a story about madness, faith, and hidden depths. Continuing downward carries a cost as the Navigator’s sanity deteriorates, raising the question of whether the machine or the mind will fail first.
How MOLE plays
- 01Vessel Systems
- The Navigator interacts with and repairs the drilling machine’s complex mechanisms during the descent.
- 02Integrated Puzzles
- Puzzles are presented as part of the vessel and its surrounding situation rather than as separate activities.
- 03Memory Fragments
- Choices bring pieces of the Navigator’s past to the surface while the crew’s disappearance is investigated.
- 04Sanity Erosion
- The continued journey into the depths gradually wears down the Navigator’s mental state.
