Our take on Masteroid
The relaxed death system gives up high-stakes consequences: losing a ship costs cargo and a small cash amount rather than ending a run. Procedural sectors also trade a fixed, authored setting for changing layouts between games.
What is Masteroid?
Masteroid is a 2D space game built around exploration, mining, trading, combat, and faction progression.
Each game creates as many as six sectors involving two factions. Players gather asteroid resources, sell them, complete missions, and build reputation through commerce or combat. Reputation opens access to additional ships and weapons. Ships can be purchased and fitted with turrets and weapons, subject to their available energy. Hostile actions can provoke faction retaliation. The game uses a relaxed structure without permanent death: being destroyed removes carried cargo and applies a small cash penalty. Players can choose a quieter or more aggressive approach to the generated galaxy.
How Masteroid plays
- 01Generated Galaxy
- A new game can create up to six sectors for two factions.
- 02Faction Progression
- Trading mined materials, completing missions, and destroying rivals grant reputation that opens ships and weapons.
- 03Ship Fitting
- Purchased vessels can receive turrets and weapons, with firing constrained by ship energy.
- 04Low-Penalty Death
- Destruction removes the current cargo and deducts a small amount of money instead of ending the game permanently.
