Our take on Legend of Mana
The store emphasis on a colorful world and remastered presentation gives less attention to the unusual map-building structure. Progress depends on placing artifacts to create locations, so the adventure’s shape is partly determined by player decisions rather than a fixed world layout.
What is Legend of Mana?
Legend of Mana is an action RPG set in Fa’Diel, where the world map begins empty.
Players place acquired artifacts on the map to create towns and dungeons, bringing locations to life and advancing quests and storylines while searching for the Mana Tree. Real-time battles use different weapons, armor, and accessories against monsters. The remaster includes updated graphics, rearranged music, and the option to switch between the new and original soundtracks. Enemy encounters can be disabled, and the game adds Ring Ring Land, a mini-game previously unreleased in the West. The adventure also features a cast of characters and a world shaped through artifact placement.
How Legend of Mana plays

- 04Encounter Control

Legend of Mana compared to similar games
Ghost of a Tale centers on a mouse protagonist, stealth, disguises, conversations, and exploration in a world populated by animals, while Legend of Mana uses real-time combat, equipment, quests, and player-placed locations. Vagante presents a dark fantasy adventure about dangerous caves, monsters, demons, and treasure-seeking adventurers; Legend of Mana instead combines quests and storylines with world-map construction and a separate mini-game.
