Our take on Horace
Rather than treating platforming as a sequence of challenges alone, Horace places a lengthy character story, cinematic scenes, unusual conversations, and arcade-style diversions inside the platformer structure. Its robot protagonist and nostalgic cultural references make the genre framework serve a broader narrative journey.
What is Horace?
Horace is a single-player 2D platform adventure following a small robot’s search for his family as he discovers life, the universe, and Douglas Adams.
Players tackle platforming puzzles and challenging boss fights, using newly gained abilities inspired by metroidvania games to get past obstacles in unusual ways. The cinematic narrative brings Horace into contact with dozens of eccentric characters and mixes emotional moments with references to 8-bit and 16-bit games. Retro-styled mini games based on arcade classics appear throughout the story. The pixel-art worlds are handcrafted, and the game offers more than 15 hours of varied platforming, created by a team of two.
