Our take on GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon
The artwork, boss roster, and weapon variety are prominent, but the core structure is repeated roguelike runs. Progress carries through death, while each attempt still brings changing layouts and another descent through combat challenges.
What is GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon?
GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon is a roguelike hack-and-slash adventure in a grim fantasy setting shaped by Japanese ukiyo-e aesthetics.
As the Getsu clan’s appointed protector, players battle demons and yokai using weapons including katanas, combat umbrellas, and spears. Every descent into Hell rearranges the terrain and presents new obstacles. When a character dies, the battle resumes through another body that retains the soul and memories. Lasting improvements, weapon modifications, and soul-based choices preserve progress between attempts. Souls gathered during each run can be exchanged for temporary enhancements. Major enemies include a revived demon ruler, an enormous centipede, and a hydra with five heads. The Digital Deluxe Edition adds the 1987 FC title, a 29-page digital artbook, and a 15-song mini soundtrack.
